Our Approach to Learning

Voices by the Sea teaches children with hearing loss to communicate by talking through an approach called Listening and Spoken Language (also known as Auditory/Oral Education or Auditory Verbal Education). In the Listening and Spoken Language approach, children learn to listen with advanced digital hearing aids or cochlear implants.

As their listening skills develop, they are able to acquire language in much the same way as a typical hearing child. The Listening and Spoken Language Approach requires professionals with specialized training working hand-in-hand with parents to provide the optimal environment for the children to learn to speak.
